Animal Life

Lee Richmond’s passion is interpreting life through art. Her artistic work strives to make order out of chaos and extract meaning from our life cycle, using personal and symbolic references to our cultural history.

“We have the tools to remodel ourselves and embrace life’s unexpected turns,” Lee said. “Beginning with drawing, I juxtapose shape and pattern and create in layers. As I move through the process everything changes again; I see differently and begin adding, editing and layering until I feel complete.,”

Lee Richmond’s latest series, features the process of drawing — in three easy steps. For this body of work, Animal Life, Lee sketches friends’ dreams, childhood haunts, and bygone seasons, and layered them with imagery of Canadiana. Her brightly coloured collages are begun with word associations and culminates with playful titles and paper shapes that predominate her mind.
